Single Mother’s Day

As a mom you can be …well…under-appreciated, especially if you have young children. You work hard; clean the house – messy again within 5 minutes; you cook meals – but not only cook them, you shop for the food, give thought to healthy eating, prepare the food, cook the food and clean up after the food – it is eaten in 5 minutes not to mention the food just dropped on the floor or squished into hair; plan and arrange schedules – lucky to get a wave goodbye when you drop them off; and the laundry, laundry, LAUNDRY!

Mothers day is supposed to be the one day of the year when it is a guarantee your family thinks about you. They find creative ways to say thank you. Older children can do this more on their own, but younger children usually make some hand painting or “help” dad cook breakfast for mom.

So what about when Dad no longer lives with us? What about when Mothers Day falls on the weekend he is to have the kids? You can chose to change weekends but then you wake up with the kids (early) and have to make them breakfast and clean up after them just like any other day. Or he can keep them and you get to sleep but you are alone. Either way there is this blatant reminder that this is not how it is supposed to be.

It seems like every day there are those reminders but there are certain days that drive it home like a batter hitting the ball dead centre and driving into the parking lot and it’s gone, just like him.
