What you can do vs. what you won’t do

I have come to realize you never know what you can do until you try. Then you’ll certainly know what you can’t.

A friend of mine color codes the jobs in her house. If you ask her who takes out the garbage, then that’s a blue job. If you ask who does the laundry then that’s a pink job.  So I guess in my house now, there are only pink jobs, since blue has left the building.

There are many jobs that are formerly known as blue jobs. When it comes time to do those jobs now, they will not get done unless I do them.

mowing the lawn

-taking out the garbage

-a dead mouse under the trampoline

-changing lightbulbs

Some of these I have executed with eloquence and style, ok that was just the light bulb one. The BBQ almost executed me and I found out that a dead mouse is not as rigid as it looks and bloody, intestinal, nastiness can squish out at the slightest touch all over your back deck.

This has been the hardest 2 years I may have ever gone through. Never would I wish this on anyone else, but I am learning and growing. It has become extremely evident that you never know what you are capable of until you have no alternative. When the lights went out I could have sat in the dark, pouted and/or cried. I could have called for help, and there have been times, and will be times, I need to do that. There are some things thought that I need to just put on my big girl panties and get in there.

It may seem so stupid but I felt amazing about myself when I changed the light bulb because I had no idea how to get the fixture off, but I figured it out. The bathroom was so bright and I accomplished that.

If things were different, I could be perfectly content to wait till the man got home and fixed the light, but this is the reality that is now and in this reality I am going to learn new things and I am going to celebrate my accomplishments – no matter how big or small.
