The Unfriending on Facebook

When you enter a relationship you meet new people. You meet their family and friends. When you get married, said people often become your facebook friends and “your” friends too.

So what happens when you are not married anymore?

Who do you keep on facebook and who do you not?

Some people are easy to unfriend, such as the “I never really liked you anyways, but your related to, or good friends with my spouse, so the facebook friend status is a polite connection”. Now that, that person is no longer my spouse I no longer need to keep the polite connection and we can be done. UNFRIEND

But there are others that it’s hard to tell if they are really just his friend or my friend now too.

I have come to the conclusion, that for now at least they shall remain my friends on facebook until such time as they betray such friending and either report things they see to him or other equally stupid actions, like making dumb comments on anything.

Personally I don’t have to tackle the unfriending of my spouse because he is not on facebook. I also don’t have to deal with the big “relationship status” change because I never put one when I joined.

It can be ugly though. When do you unfriend your to be x-spouse on facebook? I’ve seen it done in a very hurtful way. I have seen some who were already bitter and angry so the unfriend on facebook really didn’t effect them.

Amazing how impactful our online life can be to our offline life and the implications it has to our relationships.
